OSCAR PREDICTIONS

Hello friends, and welcome to Oscar season. This year's race looks like it's going to be a good one for a change. Let's take a look at my predictions.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY

The Big Sick
Get Out
Lady Bird
The Shape of Water
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

This race, for myself, comes down to Get Out and Three Billboards. Both are superb screenplays. My favorite would be Get Out, and I would be ecstatic if it won. That said, I think The Academy will likely choose Three Billboards (It's the obvious choice).

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

Call Me By Your Name
The Disaster Artist
Logan
Molly's Game
Mudbound

I'm so happy Logan edged into this category, and it would be my pick. I think The Academy will go with Call Me By Your Name though.

VISUAL EFFECTS

Blade Runner: 2049
Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Kong: Skull Island
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
War For The Planet of The Apes

All great choices and worthy nominees. My pick would be Blade Runner: 2049, The Academy's will likely be War For The Planet of The Apes (It would be nice if they switched things up a bit though).

SOUND MIXING AND EDITING

Blade Runner: 2049
Baby Driver
Dunkirk
The Shape of Water
Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I rolled these two categories into one. I would pick Baby Driver, and I think The Academy will too.

PRODUCTION DESIGN

Beauty and The Beast
Blade Runner: 2049
Darkest Hour
Dunkirk
The Shape of Water

My pick would be Blade Runner: 2049, I think The Academy will choose The Shape of Water.

ORIGINAL SONG

Mighty River- Mudbound
Mystery of Love- Call Me By Your Name
Stand Up For Something- Marshall
Remember Me- Coco
This Is Me- The Greatest Showman

Let me just say I'm SO HAPPY Beauty and The Beast didn't make it into this category. My pick is This Is Me, and it should be The Academy's too. The only reason they would choose something else (say, Mystery of Love) would be because of the backlash against Greatest Showman due to P.T. Barnum's circus' history of animal abuse and the inaccuracies of the film.

ORIGINAL SCORE

Dunkirk
Phantom Thread
The Shape of Water
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

My pick would be Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Academy's will likely be either Phantom Thread or Dunkirk (I'll give the edge to Phantom Thread).

MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING

Darkest Hour
Victoria and Abdul
Wonder

My pick and The Academy's will be Darkest Hour. A shoo-in.

FILM EDITING

Baby Driver
Dunkirk
I, Tonya
The Shape of Water
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

My pick would be Baby Driver, I think it will be The Academy's too.

DIRECTING

Paul Thomas Anderson- Phantom Thread
Greta Gerwig- Lady Bird
Guillermo Del Toro- The Shape of Water
Christopher Nolan-Dunkirk
Jordan Peele- Get Out

My pick would be Jordan Peele, and it should be The Academy's too. That said, if they went with Guillermo or Gerwig I wouldn't be surprised (Though, let's be honest...Peele really is the best out of everyone in this category).

COSTUME DESIGN

Beauty and The Beast
Darkest Hour
Phantom Thread
The Shape of Water
Victoria and Abdul

My pick would be Beauty and The Beast, The Academy's will likely be the same.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

Blade Runner: 2049
Darkest Hour
Dunkirk
The Shape of Water
Mudbound

My Pick would be Blade Runner: 2049, The Academy's could be Dunkirk. I'm disappointed A Cure For Wellness and Last Jedi weren't nominated.

BEST ANIMATED FILM

Coco
The Boss Baby
Loving Vincent
Coco
Ferdinand

I Haven't seen any of these, so I don't have a pick. The Academy will choose Coco.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Mary J. Blige- Mudbound
Allison Janney- I, Tonya
Lesley Mannville- Phantom Thread
Laurie Metcalfe- Lady Bird
Octavia Spencer- The Shape of Water

My pick would be Lesley Mannville, The Academy's will be the same.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Willem Dafoe- The Florida Project
Sam Rockwell- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Richard Jenkins- The Shape of Water
Christopher Plummer- All The Money In The World
Woody Harrelson- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

My Pick and The Academy's will be Sam Rockwell. Willem Dafoe was perfect in Florida Project, but this one belongs to Rockwell.

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

Sally Hawkins- The Shape of Water
Frances McDormand- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Margot Robbie- I, Tonya
Saorise Ronan- Lady Bird
Meryl Streep- The Post

My Pick and The Academy's will be Frances McDormand. This is her award to lose.

BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

Gary Oldman- Darkest Hour
Timothee Chalamet- Call Me By Your Name
Daniel Day-Lewis - Phantom Thread
Daniel Kaluuya- Get Out
Denzel Washington- Roman J. Israel, Esq.

My pick and The Academy's will be Gary Oldman. Kaluuya is great, but if he wins it will be due to the demand for equal representation. I'm also disappointed Mark Hamill wasn't at least nominated.

BEST PICTURE

Get Out
The Shape of Water
Darkest Hour
Dunkirk
Lady Bird
Phantom Thread
The Post
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Dunkirk

My pick would be Get Out, The Academy's should be Three Billboards (If they choose Shape of ater I would be deeply puzzled).

So, there you have it. My Oscar picks. Hope you enjoyed my thoughts. Till next time, I'll see you all on Oscar Sunday! PEACE OUT!
